This is the 13th cleanup organized by SOS Laisse de Mer, a community-based organization founded by visual artist Sophie Helene in 2018!
%C0 For this event, local organizations are widely involved: AMAP Baie de Somme, Les Pompons Rouges, Chez Cayteux, Les Loups Phoques, La Rando Caouaise, Les Chiens Sauveurs en Mer, Baie de Somme Zéro Carbone, Picardie Nature, and the City Hall of Cayeux-sur-Mer, a steadfast ally on our shores.
This positive and festive day is an opportunity for SOS Laisse de Mer and its partners to raise awareness among as many people as possible about the impact of marine pollution and to encourage us to adopt eco-friendly behaviors in our daily lives.
3 NEW FEATURES FOR THIS YEARS CLEANUP:
- A morning bird-watching session with Picardie Nature (by reservation)
- A special feature on the Baie de Somme National Nature Reserve
- A presentation of the Crochet de la Mer workshop led by volunteers from the association

An invitation in the form of a carte blanche to the Baie de Somme National Nature Reserve
which will be on display all day. This will be an opportunity to revisit important local topics with Antoine Meirland:
- The Mollière Pebble Biotope Protection Zone (APB) north of the town of Cayeux-sur-Mer, what are its boundaries, and what is and isnt allowed within this protected area? (pebbles, protection of plovers, relocation of beach huts, etc.)
- The sea kaleor crambe maritimeis the talk of the town in Cayeux-sur-Mer, and Jean-Paul Lecomte, mayor of Cayeux-sur-Mer, even inauguratedPlace des Choux on August 8, 2026, during a festival of the same name.
And to compare practices:
- The waste characterization conducted by the team at the Baie de Somme Nature Reserve follows a very comprehensive protocol that will be comparedwith the general-public protocol used by our teams. This is an opportunity to discuss citizen science programs, which give meaning to civic actions and enable the collection of valuable data.
Also on the agenda:
- Continuing the classification of waste collected during the large-scale cleanup to feed the databasesof the Surfrider Foundation, whose mission is to mobilize stakeholders and decision-makers to address the issue of marine debris along European and global coastlines.
The top 10 items of waste collected internationally are as follows: cigarette butts, plastic fragments, metal caps, pieces of glass, plastic bags, fishing nets and ropes, polystyrene fragments, and food packaging.
